Subject: OPENSOURCE THREAT REPORTINGS
Date: OCTOBER 29, 2009
The U.S. Embassy in Djibouti alerts U.S. Citizens in Djibouti and Somaliland that today is the one year anniversary of the bombings in Hargeisa and Bossasso. We remind U.S. Citizens that while Djibouti enjoys relative stability, recent press reports indicate that extremist groups operating in the Horn of Africa may be targeting Djibouti. In light of this threat, the U.S. Embassy in Djibouti recommends that American citizens avoid unnecessary visits to hotels, restaurants, and other venues frequented by Westerners, such as those located at Menelik Square and Rue d’Ethiopie.
Prior warden messages have highlighted the ongoing political turmoil in Somalia, and the persistent regional treat posed by extremist groups. American citizens should remain vigilant and exercise caution to ensure personal security. Please report any suspicious activity to your local police station and the Embassy at (253) 35-39-95 or (253) 87 72 29.
For the latest security information, Americans living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs Internet website at: http://travel.state.gov, where the current Worldwide Caution, Travel Alerts, and Travel Warnings can be found.
