Tourist & Business Visa
Visa Type | Description |
B1 | Temporary visitor for business |
B2 | Temporary visitor for pleasure |
B1/B2 | Temporary visitor for business and pleasure |
To qualify for these visas, applicants need to overcome the presumption in section 214 (b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) that all visa applicants are intending immigrants. To summarize, a visitor for business or pleasure must establish that s/he:
• Has a residence outside the United States which will not be abandoned;
• Has strong ties to his/her country of residence (i.e. business, employment, family, property or other connections, tangible or intangible)
• Is coming to the United States for a definite temporary period;
• Will depart upon the conclusion of the visit;
• Has sufficient funds to cover expenses of the visit.
Note:
- If you are TRAVELING for an EMERGENT BUSINESS, PLEASE SPECIFY IT ON YOUR REQUEST for appointment, adding the compelling reasons for requesting a priority over regular cases. You will then receive a notification asking you for additional information, if any, or giving you the date and time of your interview.

For business visa facilitation, please see the box to the right. For a list of things that applicants must bring to the Embassy on the date of the interview, please refer to the "NIV application instructions" link on the left.
If you are invited by an organization in the U.S., that organization, and your local employer (if applicable), must provide a written letter supporting your application.
