Non Immigrant Visa (NIV) – Application Instructions

WHEN APPLYING FOR A NON-IMMIGRANT (temporary visit) VISA, YOU NEED TO BRING THE FOLLOWING:

• A valid passport (At least 6 months beyond your intended period of stay in the Unites States)

• Your Residence Permit (Carte d’Identité d’Étranger) or valid residence visa, if you are not Djiboutian but have your domicile in Djibouti. For non-resident third country nationals please see the "Applications by non-Djiboutians" link under the left navigation bar.

• A USD 131 (or 23,600 DJF) non-refundable processing fee, cash only. U.S. dollar should be dated 2003 or later (traveling minor children who have their own passport or are on a parent’s passport also need to pay the same fee).

• One photograph with a white background (see photos requirements)

• Supporting documents (like, but not limited to, your last 3 months bank statements, original bank letter showing your latest bank balance, employment letter with leave status or business licence certification, property ownership certificate, marriage certificate, birth certificate of children, etc.)

• Form DS-156 visa application, completed in english on line, at: http://evisaforms.state.gov/  (please make sure you answer ALL questions, then generate the form on PDF format by clicking on “CONTINUE” at the bottom of the page, and print it). Each traveling minor child, including those who are on a parent’s passport, also need to have a separate DS-156 form completed and signed for them by a parent or legal guardian. If you have not responded to all the questions in english (where applicable), we will not accept your application!

• Form DS-157 Supplemental Nonimmigrant Visa Application, print it and complete it manually (or complete it on your computer and print it), if you are aged between 16-45: please go to the following link and click on the corresponding line to generate   http://www.state.gov/m/a/dir/forms/

• A flight itinerary

• for a student visa:

- Form DS-158 Contact Information and Work History for Nonimmigrant Applicant form, (print it and complete it manually, or complete it on your computer and print it): please click on http://www.state.gov/m/a/dir/forms/ 

- Your I-20

- Your SEVIS payment receipt (form I-901)

- Your school/university admission letter

- Proof of financial capacity to cover for tuition and lodging for the entire period of study

Note – Presenting the above documents does not guarantee a visa will be issued. They will just help the consular officer in the review process of the visa application.
         - In addition to the application fee, there may be an issuance fee to be paid, if you qualify for a visa (see here).
         -  Make sure your barcode is clearely printed on page 3 of your DS-156 application (see important guidance here)
        

Important Note:  The schedule for visa application drop off will be, effective immediately until further notice, the day before the interview day, i.e. on Sundays between 12:00 and 13:30, instead of Monday mornings 07:30. Monday remains the day for interviews.
